Gaytan Foods was started in 1935 by Florencio and Jesus Gaytan - only it wasn't yet known as Gaytan Foods. Our founders actually started in the market business, selling everything from dairy to meat and everything in between. One item seemed to sell more than anything else - Florencio's home made Pork Rinds, or Chicharrones as they were known.

Soon Florencio & Jesus's son Rudy took over the business. He designed and built the world's first fully automated Pork Rind production plant in the 1970's. While other companies have tried to imitate our unique process, no one has been able to duplicate the light, fluffy texture and natural flavor our proprietary method makes.

The 1990's again saw a dramatic improvement in productivity with the addition of a brand new packaging line that was able to keep up with our growing cooking department. Our strict quality assurance measures helped to ensure we retained our original home cooked style while increasing capacity to meet our demand. We also started selling our cheese puffs at this time, using only top-grade corn meal and an abundance of REAL cheese. (Most of our competitors use almost no real cheese in their "cheese" puffs; can you believe that?)

In 2000 we re-launched our pickled products line (a throwback to the 70's!). We are now the largest producer of Pickled Pork Rinds (Cueritos) and Pickled Pig's Feet (Patitas) in the United States.

Fast forward to July 2007, our business now supports over 250 family members and we've moved into an award winning 64,000 square foot facility.
